ST. LOUIS - A St. Charles family sued the manufacturer of the Ninja household blenders after an alleged blender design defect led to an injury, according to documents filed Feb. 22 in St. Louis federal court.

Plaintiffs Katherine and Ronald Tautphaeus owned a Ninja Blender model BL 700, which a child in the home used in July 2020 to make a smoothie. While pouring the smoothie out into a cup, the sharp razor blades on the blender's middle shaft fell out along with the smoothie into the container and became stuck, the suit says.

Upon trying to remove the lodged razors from the container, Katherine Tautphaeus suffered a laceration to her right thumb, the suit says.

The plaintiffs are suing Sharkninja Operating and Sales for one count of strict product liability through a design defect, one count of strict product liability through failure to warn, one count of negligence through defective design, one count of negligence through failure to warn and one count of loss of consortium.

The Tautphaeus family is represented by Engelmeyer and Pezzani LLC and the Defeo Law Firm.
