Cargill accused of letting people fall and get hurt in icy parking lot on snowy day

Federal Court

ST. LOUIS - Minnesota-based manufacturing company Cargill, Inc. faces civil charges in federal court after a delivery driver was allegedly injured at the Montgomery City Cargill facility, according to documents filed this year.

Plaintiff Tony Nowlin of Columbia sued in Montgomery County state court in January. He says he was picking up a delivery at the facility on January 13, 2020. Nowlin says he was unaware that the parking lot and sidewalk were covered in snow and ice, creating a hazardous condition.

He alleges that Cargill, however, was in fact aware of the lot's conditions and the fact that other people had reportedly fallen in the parking lot that day due to the ice.

Nowlin slipped and fell in the lot, sustaining a torn rotator cuff.

The plaintiff is seeking at least $25,000 from Cargill for his damages, including almost $75,000 in medical bills. The defendant removed the case to St. Louis federal court on March 19.

Nowlin is represented by Bley and Evans LC of Columbia.
