ST. LOUIS - Two faculty members sued the Lee's Summit R-7 School District for alleged employment discrimination in federal court.

The complaint was filed by plaintiffs Nancy Spatz and Dr. Joy Brigman on April 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. Spatz worked for the defendant as a field technology specialist and Dr. Brigman was the elementary school assistant principal.

Spatz and Brigman allege that the school district discriminates against women through unfair pay. According to Spatz, male technology employees of equal or similar qualification were paid more than female technology employees, but the district denied the disparity being as a result of gender.

Brigman also found that male counterparts were paid better and on different scales than females.

The school district is accused of violating the Missouri Human Rights Act through disparate treatment based on age and sex, Age Discrimination in Employment Act violation, U.S. Constitution civil rights violations and retaliation.

The plaintiffs are represented by Kapke and Willerth LLC of Lee's Summit and the Klamann Law Firm of Kansas City.
