Angad Arts Hotel sued after gruesome amputation accident in elevator

ST. LOUIS - The Angad Arts Hotel in St. Louis faces a lawsuit after a guest jumping in the elevator had one finger amputated and another degloved. .

The complaint was filed on March 11 in the St. Louis County Circuit Court and later removed to federal court on May 13. 

Plaintiff Matthew Carron of O'Fallon was a guest at the hotel with a friend on October 20, 2019. In the early morning hours of that day, the plaintiff was returning to his room with the friend on the elevator when the elevator stopped moving between floors. 

The plaintiff says they called for help and used the call button but only got automated responses. After hearing noises above the elevator, Carron allegedly began jumping and hitting the ceiling to attempt to alert someone to the stuck elevator. 

During his last jump, Carron's left ring finger was amputated and his left pinky was entirely stripped of skin.

The hotel is owned by defendant TLG 634 Grand LLC and the elevator manufacturer, ThyssenKrupp Elevator Corporation, was also named in the suit. 

The defendants are sued for negligence, negligence per se, premises liability, strict liability, failure to warn and manufacture defects.

The plaintiff is represented by Keane Law LLC of St. Louis.
