Woman alleges surgeon punctured bowels

Federal Court
Surgery

ST. LOUIS -- A woman claims to have suffered after medical malpractice that included surgical mishaps.

Victoria Barnett filed a complaint in April in the Circuit Court of Butler County against Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, LLC, for medical malpractice. The defendant recently removed the case to St. Louis federal court.

According to the complaint, on May 7, 2019, Tracy Sambo, M.D. performed a laparoscopic cholecystectomy on Barnett for a preoperative and post-operative diagnosis and treatment of cholecystitis. During a post-operative HIDA scan, a bile leak was revealed in Barnett's small bowel causing her to go through the first of several ERCPs and stent placements beginning May 10, 2019, the suit says.

Barnett alleges that Sambo botched the May 7 surgery, causing her to suffer injury and further surgeries to fix the problem.

Barnett is represented by John S. Wallach of the Law Office of John S. Wallach, P.C.
