Black employee claims racism at electric company after supervisor kicked him in leg

Federal Court
Courtroom

ST. LOUIS -- Antonio T. Reid filed a lawsuit in June in St. Louis County Circuit Court against Killark Electric for hostile work environment - race, hostile work environment - retaliation and race discrimination.

The defendant removed the case to St. Louis federal court on Aug. 5.

Reid began working for Killark Electric in 2014. Reid alleges that him and other African-American employees were given unreasonable and excessive amounts of work, and would then be disciplined for not completing all the assigned work.

In January 2019, Reid alleges that a supervisor intentionally kicked Reid in the leg from behind. Other co-workers responded to the incident by saying "that's assault," the lawsuit claims.

The company's human resources department was informed of the kick, but the HR representative did not seem to care that Reid was kicked, the suit says.

After that supervisor was promoted, Reid alleges that his replacement continued the harassment, mistreatment, and retaliation and also would follow Reid around the warehouse constantly trying to catch him doing something wrong, even following Reid into the bathroom, the suit claims.

Reid is represented by Douglas Ponder of Ponder Zimmermann LLC.
