Woman says she was fired for reporting age discrimination

Federal Court
Hammer gavel

ST. LOUIS - Jordan Skouby filed a complaint on July 16 in the Circuit Court of St. Louis County against Mercy Clinics East Communities for age discrimination.

According to the complaint, Skouby was employed by Mercy Clinics East Communities from 2008 until October 7, 2020, when she was terminated. During the time of her employment, Skouby was over the age of 40.

Skouby alleges that in February 2020, her supervisor, Bonnie Edmonds, who was 60, was forced to retire from Mercy to be replaced by a 33-year-old. In May 2020, two females over the age of 60 were terminated from Mercy, Paula Rossamano and Sylvia Taylor, and both were replaced by younger employees, the suit claims.

On September 15, 2020, Skouby allegedly was placed on a Performance Improvement Plan; she believed that the PIP was being used as a reason to eventually fire her like the other older women. On September 28, 2020, Plaintiff called Mercy’s hotline, pursuant to Mercy’s anti-discrimination policy, and reported that she was being discriminated against because of her age. Skouby was then terminated two weeks later.

Skouby seeks compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages, interest, cost of suit and attorney's fees. Skouby is represented by Jaclyn Zimmermann.

The defendant recently removed the case to St. Louis federal court.
