ST. LOUIS - John M. Urbanowicz filed a federal complaint on August 31 in the District of Missouri against the City of Eureka.

According to the complaint, on January 22, 2021, Urbanowicz was going door to door in Eureka attempting to sell his employer's services to members of the public. Urbanowicz had just successfully concluded a sale of services to residents of a home when he was allegedly confronted outside that residence by a Eureka police officer.

Urbanowicz was cited for unlawfully soliciting without a permit in violation of section 15-16 of the Eureka Municipal code though his work qualified him as a peddler, the suit says.

Urbanowicz seeks compensatory damages in the amount of $60,000 for lost revenue, $25,000 for damages of mental anguish and personal humiliation, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Urbanowicz is represented by Nicholas G. Higgins.
