Couple sue township for drainage water allegedly damaging property, business

ST. LOUIS - Larry Cronan and Maat Van Uitert filed a complaint in July in the Circuit Court of Dunklin County against Freeborn Township for inverse condemnation and public entity liability.

According to the complaint, Larry Cronan and Maat Van Uitert are husband and wife that own a residency and run a business from another building on the same property. Plaintiffs allege that the continued work on the public road in front of their property for stormwater drainage has caused more water to surface on their property, causing damage to the property and the business.

Plaintiffs allege they were never consulted about fixes to the road or drainage system, and the Township knew the runoff would pool on their property, causing said damages. The defendant recently removed the case to St. Louis federal court.

Plaintiffs seek actual and compensatory damages, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Plaintiffs are represented by Scott A. Robbins.
