Thompson Coburn LLP issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which falls on the third Monday of January, is the only federal holiday to be designated as a national day of service. In 2022, Thompson Coburn honored Dr. King’s legacy of service by serving as a sponsor of the January 17 event organized by the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Bar Association of St. Louis (BAMSL).
The event was a drive-through distribution of food, toiletries, masks, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) held at the Urban League headquarters at 1408 N. Kingshighway Boulevard in St. Louis. The event included a check presentation that indicates that BAMSL helped raise $58K for the Urban League.
“One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King is, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?’” said Sonette Magnus, a Thompson Coburn litigation partner and Urban League board member who served on the steering committee for the 2022 event. “Our MLK Day event put that question into action by putting absolutely essential supplies and food into the hands of members of our community.”
A number of Thompson Coburn attorneys and staff participated in the MLK Day of Service by volunteering their time to distribute items: Sarah Chamberlain, John Galvin, Suzanne Galvin, Norma Jackson, Sonette Magnus and Katherine Murchison.
