Shook Hosts Fifth Scholars Institute for Diverse Law Students

File000704919536

Shook is hosting the fifth annual Shook Scholars Institute, April 13-15. The Institute is an innovative diversity and inclusion-focused development program that gives diverse first-year law students an opportunity to learn from Shook’s established attorneys through trial practice, sessions on lawyering skills, leadership training, success strategies and mentoring opportunities.

The program is open to 1L students who self-identify as racially and/or ethnically diverse and/or LGBTQ, have an interest in practicing in civil litigation and have demonstrated academic performance and leadership achievements. Shook covers the cost of all travel, lodging and meals for student participants. This year, 16 students are participating in the program.

Shook Partner and retired Jackson County Circuit Judge Jon Gray, who served as a judge on the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of Missouri for 20 years, leads the trial program component of the Institute.

The Shook Scholars Institute is part of the firm’s efforts on creating a more diverse and inclusive legal industry.
