The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City has selected Shook Partner Michael Cappo for its 44th Kansas City Tomorrow (KCT) leadership class.
Cappo, along with other business, nonprofit and public-sector leaders, will engage in a yearlong program to prepare for civic engagement and leadership in the Kansas City region. KCT selected participants through a competitive process that included in-person interviews.
“This year’s KCT class is filled with a diverse group of professionals that bring varied talents and experiences to KCT’s leadership program,” said KCT Leadership Chair Paul Holewinski. “The Civic Council members are excited that the KCT programming is aligned with KC Rising’s focus and will positively open new leadership opportunities to this KCT team while positively impacting the Kansas City region.”
Cappo joins 27 executives who will focus on Kansas City’s most pressing issues, including education, economic development, diversity and inclusion, and the KC Rising initiative. The KCT program’s goal is to prepare its participants for civil leadership roles in the Kansas City region.
Cappo is a partner in Shook’s General Liability Litigation group and focuses his practice on defending clients sued for product liability, tort, negligence, consumer protection, fraud, business litigation, automotive liability and premises liability. His broad base of experience enables him to effectively represent clients across several industries, including the security alarm, fire suppression, construction, chemical, vehicle sales, water products, food service, telecommunications, senior living and battery industries.
The announcement follows Shook Chair Madeleine McDonough’s recent election to a two-year term as the Civic Council’s Chair, which became effective June 1. McDonough has been a member of the group for six years and previously served as Treasury-Secretary and Vice-Chair.
