The last month of 2022 is winding down, and we look to 2023 with the best intentions and hopes for the new year. Despite harsh weather, the rush of the holiday season, and the stresses that come with closing out the year, we’re here to help you catch up on the news from December!

YLS hosted drive for professional clothing donations

The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section collected donations for Dress for Success Midwest for their most recent service project – helping Missourians in need answer the question, “What would you wear to a job interview to make the best impression?”

Dress for Success Midwest works primarily with women who are involved in job training, although their Connections to Success office in St. Charles also has a suiting boutique for men. The YLS Council collected men’s suits, dress shirts, dress shoes, and miscellaneous items such as trousers, jackets, belts, etc. Specifically for women, the group brought in two suits, multiple suit dresses, a bag, watches, and dozens of blouses and dress pants.

2022 Objections Guidebook, Second Edition, now available to Missouri lawyers

This updated guidebook gives lawyers a useful tool to improve the presentation of evidence and replaces the Missouri Evidence Handbook, first published in 1996. Co-authors Hon. Deborah Daniels and James R. Wyrsch explore the prevalent objections made during trial; the recommended forms for objecting; rules, expectations, and factors affecting an objection; special circumstances and subsidiary rules; and exceptions that lawyers might encounter in the courtroom.

The Objections Guidebook, Second Edition, is available digitally or as a hard copy on The Missouri Bar’s website.

Changes and traditions at Missouri law schools

Originally printed in The Journal of The Missouri Bar, this article catches lawyers up with recent happenings at the four law schools in the state. This includes the 150th anniversary of the University of Missouri School of Law, news about the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law’s Summer Trial Advocacy Institute, Saint Louis University School of Law’s 40th anniversary of SLU LAW’s Center for Health Law Studies, and Washington University School of Law’s expanded scholarship award program.

Most popular feature

As usual, the bar’s most popular articles were November’s In Memoriam, followed by The Missouri Bar’s weekly case summaries. The bar provides links to all hand-downs by the Supreme Court of Missouri and the Missouri Court of Appeals each week online. There are headings and summaries for each case. Summaries are not part of the opinions of the Court. They have been prepared for the convenience of the reader and should not be quoted or cited.
