ST. LOUIS – A woman has filed a lawsuit against Doorways, a St. Louis affordable housing provider, for alleged mail tampering, claiming that her personal and confidential information was compromised after an unknown individual opened a letter from the Office of Chief Disciplinary Council without her permission.
Plaintiff Marriell Sproaps filed a federal lawsuit against Doorways citing allegations of mail tampering.
Doorways is an affordable housing provider in the St. Louis area. Sproaps claims that on September 1, 2023, she was notified by her Doorways case manager that she had mail available from the Office of Chief Disciplinary Council that was marked "personal and confidential." Sproaps claims someone opened the mail without her permission. When she picked up the letter, she says an unknown person had taped the letter back together. Sproaps claims Doorways employees have not been forthcoming about who opened or tampered with the letter.
Sproaps is claiming she has been damaged because the unknown individual who opened her letter was able to gain her personal and confidential information.
Sproaps is seeking a judgment for damages. She is representing herself in this case.
