Thompson Coburn Attorneys Named to Missouri Top 100 Power List

Six Thompson Coburn attorneys were among the 100 selected by Missouri Lawyers Media for its Top 100 Power List 2023. At the end of each year, the publication reviews hundreds of Power profiles published in the previous 12 months to find the Top 100 attorneys in Missouri and bordering metro areas. Below is the list of firm attorneys included, including excerpts from their profiles:

Bill Bay, Partner

Business Defense category: “Bill Bay has more than 20 years of experience in high-stakes corporate litigation in Missouri and around the nation. In 2012, he was the first Missouri attorney elected to chair the American Bar Association’s litigation section. Missouri Lawyers Media named him as an Influential Lawyer that same year. … He is often tapped as regional or national counsel on behalf of major financial institutions, manufacturers, universities and corporations in suits and regulatory actions. Bill has helped his clients mitigate litigation involving breaches of contract, fraud, corporate governance, insurance coverage, lost profits, lender liability and tortious interference.”

David Jinkins, Partner

Intellectual Property Law category: “A litigator for more than 20 years, David Jinkins holds a master’s degree in molecular cellular and developmental biology, enabling him to communicate well with clients in the bio and agricultural industries. He has a reputation for building strong relationships with clients through his desire to understand their goals and business needs. Clients respect his communication style, as well as his ability to carefully listen and tailor his counsel and litigation methods to their needs.”

Michele Kloeppel, Partner

Mergers & Acquisitions category: “Michelle Kloeppel has represented clients in mergers and acquisitions ranging between $15 million and $600 million. Kloeppel co-chairs the firm’s corporate and securities practice group alongside fellow POWER honoree Fred Strasheim. She is a former in-house counsel for Panera Bread Company and Worldcom. She now advises executives and general counsel on Securities and Exchange Commission reporting, executive compensation, policy guidelines, risk management, disclosure issues, exchange listing requirements and governance trends.”

Mark Sableman, Partner

Sports & Entertainment Law category: “Mark Sableman has devoted his career to intellectual property, media and information technology law. He counts many news organizations as clients, including the Missouri Broadcasters Association, whose board of directors he served on for 17 years. In 2020, he won a ruling in the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals striking down Missouri rules that had restricted advertising of alcohol prices, in violation of the First Amendment. He has litigated cases ranging from copyright and trademark matters to Internet-related claims.”

Booker T. Shaw, Partner

Appellate Law category: “Booker Shaw has remained influential since leaving the bench in 2009. … Shaw’s cases range from a credit card company’s tax refund to a juror’s nondisclosure and its effect on a $19 million wrongful death verdict. … He was appointed to the Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern District in 2002, and he served as chief judge from 2006 to 2007. He retired from the bench to join his current firm as a partner. In 2016, Shaw was on a task force that worked to reform the state’s municipal courts. He also chaired a group of retired judges that reviewed the death penalty over inmate Marcellus Williams.”

Bob Wallace, Jr., Partner

Sports & Entertainment Law category: “Bob Wallace leads his firm’s sports law group, representing teams, prospective team buyers and companies interested in sports marketing and civic and government entities facing team relocation or facility issues. He also assists players, coaches and executives with contract-related issues, and he serves as an NFL-approved hearing officer for violations of the league’s drug and conduct policies.”
