A former employee is accusing Amazon of age and racial discrimination.

Carrie Solomon filed her complaint in federal court against Amazon.com Services.

Solomon, a Black woman over 40 years old, alleges she was denied promotions and required to perform duties beyond her job description without adequate compensation due to her race and age. She began working for Amazon in November 2017 and was transferred to work at its facility near Republic, Missouri, as an area manager in July 2021.

The complaint details instances where younger white women were promoted to positions of authority over Solomon despite her ability to perform those jobs herself. She claims she was instructed by supervisors Andrew Lee, Mark Bacon and Ryan Fleming – all white men – to monitor the performance of these women. When questioned about this unusual practice, they did not provide any justification.

In addition to being denied promotions, Solomon claims she was transferred to night shifts and required to perform duties superior to her position without any promotion or pay increase. Despite receiving good evaluations for her job performance between December 2022 and February 2023, none of her superiors met with her to discuss her performance or potential promotions.

On April 12, 2023, Solomon's employment with Amazon was terminated. She believes this termination was due to her age and race as well as because she complained about discrimination based on these factors.
