A Missouri man says the hip implant system he received was defective.
Steven Sakoulas filed his complaint in federal court against DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. and Johnson & Johnson International.
According to the complaint, the problem involved a Depuy ASR metal-on-metal device implanted in Sakoulas' left hip. He says defects in the device caused excessive amounts of cobalt and chromium to corrode and wear from the surfaces of the acetabular cup, femoral head and taper sleeve. This corrosion allegedly led to severe pain and suffering for Sakoulas as well as failure of the implant and death of surrounding tissue and bone.
