Former employee accuses Popeye's of racial discrimination

Federal Court
Popeyes

A former employee of Popeye's has filed a lawsuit accusing the company of racial discrimination.

Amanda Marion Mitchell filed her complaint against the company in federal court alleging she was subjected to harassment due to her race throughout her employment tenure. She says this is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Mitchell, who is Black, started working as a Fast-Food Crew Member at Popeye's on June 28, 2021, and was terminated on November 2, 2022. She claims she performed her duties satisfactorily and received good performance evaluations until she complained about discrimination.

The complaint claims Tracy Waddel, a white woman who was general manager of the Popeye’s at Oak Grove, discriminated against Mitchell multiple times. Alleged discriminatory actions include repeated verbal abuse and yelling, refusing to pay a promised hourly raise and intentionally understaffing Mitchell's shift.

Mitchell reported these incidents to her management but soon was terminated. She claims she never received a resolution to any of her complaints from the Human Resource department.
