A former employee has accused Southwestern Bell of racial, religious and disability discrimination.

Chasidy S. Brown filed her complaint in federal court against Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

According to the complaint, Brown says she was wrongfully terminated from her position at the company's call center in Cape Girardeau. Brown claims her termination was discriminatory and retaliatory in nature. Brown had been an employee of Southwestern Bell since 2019 until her termination on June 11, 2021.

Brown, who is Black, claims she had made two requests for reasonable accommodation based on her Christian religion and a medical disability that prevented her from wearing a facemask. Both requests were denied by the company. However, she alleges a white employee with similar issues was granted accommodation.

She also alleges she was denied short-term disability benefits despite providing all necessary medical documentation as per the company's policy. She says white employees with similar needs were granted short-term disability benefits.

Brown seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
