A Missouri woman has sued the U.S. Postal Service after she sustained injuries in the parking lot of a Jackson County location.

In her federal complaint, Glenna Ann Brooks says she sustained personal injuries at the Grain Valley post office on February 22, 2022.

According to the complaint, Brooks parked her vehicle in a designated area near the post office and while exiting her vehicle, half of her left foot rested on an elevated concrete curb while the other half went down on the ground adjacent to the curb. This caused her to lose balance and fall to the ground.

Brooks accuses the USPS of failing to maintain safe conditions on its property. She claims USPS knew or should have known about this dangerous condition and failed to take care to barricade it, warn of it, make it reasonably safe or remedy it.

As a result, Brooks says she sustained severe injuries to both sides of her left ankle requiring surgery involving screws and plates, extensive physical therapy and ongoing swelling and pain. The lawsuit seeks compensation for damages she has sustained and will continue to sustain in the future as well as attorney fees.
