A woman has filed a discrimination lawsuit against a St. Louis charter school.

Barbara Tate-Ward filed her lawsuit in federal court against KIPP St. Louis, also known as Kipp Charter School St. Louis.

According to the complaint, Tate-Ward worked for the defendant from August 2021 until her termination in May 2022. During her employment, she says she suffered an anxiety attack and was diagnosed with severe anxiety, which significantly impacted her daily life activities. Despite this, she says the school denied her a promotion and chose not to renew her contract in April 2022.

In March 2022, Tate-Ward filed a charge of discrimination against the school. She alleges that her termination was due to race discrimination and retaliation related to her disability claim. She is seeking damages under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Tate-Ward is seeking compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney fees and other relief.
