Description:

This program will discuss the legal challenges and responsibilities lawyers face in representing veterans and how the continuing trauma veterans experience affects the lawyer’s ethical responsibilities of diligence and client communication. In addition the program will discuss the legal difficulties veterans face when they are discharged under less than honorable circumstances for behavior that is characteristic of some conditions commonly suffered by military veterans, how to collect relevant records, recognize trauma symptoms, and trauma interviewing. Following the presentation of the movie, a panel of experts will discuss the legal issues portrayed in the movie, the needs of military veterans, the obstacles confronting veterans who attempt to access treatment, and how lawyers can help meet those needs and overcome the barriers to help.
