The Young Lawyer’s Section Council of The Missouri Bar met Feb. 23-24, in St. Louis for networking, planning, and community service.

The Missouri Bar Young Lawyers’ Section (YLS) works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.

Friday, Feb. 23, was dedicated to giving back to the community and networking. Several YLS members spent their afternoon at the Southside Early Childhood Center, the first childcare center west of the Mississippi River. The organization provides childcare to over 260 children across three locations. The volunteers were given a tour of the facilities after which they helped staff by sanitizing equipment and chairs for the classrooms, cleaning strollers, building furniture, and interacting with the children. Six members also participated in a Missouri.FreeLegalAnswers.org clinic where they answered nearly 20 questions.

That evening, The Young Lawyer’s Section Council hosted a networking event for members of the YLS council, local YLS members, and Missouri Bar President Megan Phillips. Around 60 lawyers, including representatives from local and affinity bar associations, and guests attended the event, making connections and discussing careers.

Saturday, Feb. 24, was reserved for official business and updates on various projects including:

  • A welcome and introduction to The Missouri Bar Board of Governors from 2023-24 Missouri Bar President Megan Phillips.
  • Budget review and funding requests.
  • Reports from various committees and liaisons.
