WashULaw Welcomes Stefanie Lindquist as New Dean

WashULaw welcomes Stefanie Lindquist as its new dean, effective. Lindquist, an esteemed legal scholar and academic leader, brings a wealth of experience and vision to the role.

Lindquist joins WashULaw from Arizona State University, where she served as Senior Vice President for Global Academic Initiatives. She also served as Associate Dean of the University of Texas School of Law and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. Known for her expertise in judicial behavior and constitutional law, Lindquist has authored numerous influential publications and has been a prominent voice in the legal community. Her book, “Measuring Judicial Activism,” is the first publication to define the oft-used term quantitatively.

In addition to her scholarship, Dean Lindquist’s teaching is highly regarded; she was awarded the Robert Birkby Award for Excellence in Teaching Political Science during her tenure at Vanderbilt University, and while at the University of Georgia, she was named Professor of the Year and earned its University-Wide Teaching Award.

Dean Lindquist earned her law degree at Temple University and a PhD with an emphasis on American politics, public law, and public administration from the University of South Carolina. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Temple University, she clerked for the Honorable Anthony J. Scirica at the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia. She later practiced law at Latham and Watkins in Washington, D.C.

In her new role at WashULaw, Lindquist aims to enhance the school’s academic programs, expand its global reach, and strengthen its commitment to inclusivity. She expressed excitement about leading WashULaw into a new era of innovation and excellence, building on its strong foundation and vibrant community.
