National law firm Husch Blackwell has retained the top national rankings from the American Health Law Association (AHLA) and the American Bar Association's (ABA) Health Law Section.
The most recent AHLA ranking comes after the firm’s February 2024 recognition from the ABA Health Law Section. In 2012, Husch Blackwell first appeared on the AHLA Top Honors list when it was ranked No. 14. Top Honors “recognizes the organizations behind our members—those law firms, organizations, health plans, businesses, and government agencies that consistently and enthusiastically sustain their members’ and employees’ affiliation with AHLA.”
“We set out to become a nationally recognized player as part of the firm’s strategic plan implemented over 10 years ago, and we’re proud to have earned top rankings from both organizations in consecutive years while continuing to grow to support our clients’ expanding needs,” said partner Curt Chase, leader of the firm’s Healthcare, Life Sciences, and Education industry team. “Our team has grown from 70 attorneys to over 300 industry professionals. I could not be prouder to be part of such a great team.”
Since 2013, Husch Blackwell merged with Brown McCarroll, which established the firm’s Texas healthcare presence. In 2020, it landed two lateral groups from different firms in Wisconsin to expand its healthcare transactional capabilities as well as a national hospice and palliative care team. And in 2021 the firm expanded into New England with the addition of an 11-attorney healthcare boutique. The firm has also added healthcare laterals in California, Minnesota and the Southeast. In 2024, the firm continued its expansion in Minneapolis with the addition of a team of attorneys from intellectual property boutique Patterson Thuente, and will open an office in Nashville later this year.
In addition to topping the AHLA and ABA lists, Husch Blackwell’s healthcare team has received numerous accolades over the past year, including national rankings from Chambers USA and Legal 500 United States in their healthcare law categories, and was listed as one of the Top 10 largest healthcare law firms by Modern Healthcare
“Husch Blackwell has been actively involved with both the AHLA and ABA, showcasing a strong and enduring commitment for decades,” said partner Tom Shorter, a past president of AHLA. “Countless others, including Hal Katz as a recent Past Chair of the ABA Health Law Section, have contributed to laying the groundwork for our firm’s success through leadership, speaking, and volunteering roles within these organizations. Through these affiliations, our attorneys have been established as thought leaders, providing us with additional career development opportunities and fostering long-lasting relationships that enhance our advocacy for our clients.”
