Professors Benjamin Levin and Sheldon Evans recently attended CrimFest at the Cardozo School of Law in New York City. This annual event welcomes criminal law scholars from across the country to share their expertise in the ever-evolving fields of criminal law and procedure. CrimFest 2024 took place on July 15-16.

Professor Levin joined Washington University in 2023, and his research on criminal legal theory and policy has appeared in leading journals, such as the Columbia Law Review, the Michigan Law Review, and the Virginia Law Review. At Crimfest, he presented a paper entitled “Disaggregating Criminal Justice,” which examines criminal justice reform and debates about the function of the criminal justice system. Levin also moderated a panel on “Expanding Liability.”

Professor Evans also joined Washington University in 2023. His scholarship examines the intersections of criminal sentencing, punishment theory, and immigration policies. His recent article, “Punishment Externalities and the Prison Tax,” won the AALS Criminal Justice Section Junior Scholar Award in 2022 for its contribution to punishment theory and efforts to end mass incarceration. At CrimFest, he moderated a panel on “Crimmigation,” which explores the intersection of criminal and immigration law.

Please join us in thanking both Professor Levin and Professor Evans for their continued work in these critical fields.
