Thompson Coburn partner Robert Shapiro, who leads the international trade practice, was highlighted in a St. Louis Business Journal article on the St. Louis Trade Compliance Practitioners Roundtable. The bi-monthly meeting brings together professionals to discuss international trade regulations. The 13-year-old group has about 50 companies as members that play a valuable behind-the-scenes role in the international trade community.

“It’s really about, how do you do this job more efficiently?” said Robert, who is the group’s pro bono legal counsel. “It’s how do you solve this issue? What’s coming down the road that you need to tell the CEO about before it happens.” Topics discussed at the sessions have included the inner workings of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement and thorny questions about trading with countries under U.S. government sanctions.

Robert provides regular updates at the roundtable meetings on federal actions. If international businesses play a major role in the growth of the St. Louis region, he said, the roundtable is “part of what allows it to happen in a good way.”
