The Missouri Bar is seeking volunteers to judge the Show Me the Constitution mock congressional hearing competition.
The competition, which will take place April 7, 2025, in Columbia, replicates congressional committee hearings, challenging teams of students to apply constitutional principles to current events. This year’s competition features questions about presidential immunity, the overturning of Chevron, and constitutional changes to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Danielle Atchison is an alumnus of the program and has been volunteering as a judge since 2014.
“I believe my participation in high school directly affected me becoming a lawyer,” Atchison said. “I always walk away with excitement and hope knowing our next generation of students are gaining invaluable skills to be a part of their own government.”
Russ Sackreiter is a retired teacher whose students competed in the competition for many years. He now serves as a judge to continue inspiring students to increase their knowledge of the law and government.
“After countless years as a judge for SMTC I am never disappointed, quite the contrary, I am filled with confidence that the United States in in good hands,” Sackreiter said.
