JEFFERSON CITY — As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl on Feb. 9, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey urges football fans to stay vigilant when purchasing tickets.

With the high demand for Super Bowl tickets, fraudulent sellers and scams are rising, posing a significant risk to eager fans looking to secure their spot at the big game.

“With the Chiefs heading to the Super Bowl, I want all Missourians to stay sharp when purchasing their tickets and avoid falling victim to scams,” Bailey said in a provided statement. “We are here to ensure that anyone who tries to exploit our fans will be held accountable. If you encounter an issue, know that the Attorney General’s Office is here to help.”

Bailey’s warning comes as online scams and counterfeit ticket sales continue to surge during major sporting events.

Fraudulent sellers often use deceptive tactics, including fake websites, counterfeit tickets and misleading advertisements, to lure unsuspecting buyers into losing hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

To help Missourians avoid falling prey to these scams, the Attorney General’s Office has provided a set of guidelines to ensure safe ticket purchases.

The AG's Office said to know the vendor. You should always purchase tickets from reputable sources. Be cautious when buying from unfamiliar websites or individual sellers, and never provide personal financial information to unverified sources.

The office also suggests doing your research. Before committing to a ticket purchase, check the seller’s reputation. The Attorney General’s Office and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) maintain databases of complaints that can help identify untrustworthy vendors.

The office urges Missourians to use a credit card. When purchasing tickets online, use a credit card rather than cash, check, debit card or payment apps like Venmo or Cash App. Credit card transactions typically offer protection and potential refunds in case of fraud.

The office notes that they should shop on secure sites. Always verify that the website is secure before entering payment details. A secure site will have an address that begins with “https” and a closed lock icon in the browser’s address bar.

Bailey says to inspect your tickets if purchasing physical tickets. He says to review them closely to ensure their authenticity. Confirm that the date, time, location and seating details match the official event listing to avoid being denied entry at the venue.

Lastly, Bailey says to be skeptical of deals that are too good to be true. If a ticket price seems unusually low, it may be a scam. Super Bowl tickets are in high demand and typically come at a premium price, so extremely discounted offers should be approached with caution.

The Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year.

Beyond the game itself, the Super Bowl has a significant impact on Missouri, with businesses in Kansas City and across the state benefiting from increased sales in bars, restaurants, and retail stores.

Fans are gearing up for watch parties, and local establishments are preparing for record crowds as excitement continues to build.

The city is expected to host numerous events leading up to the big game, adding to the overall atmosphere of celebration.

Ticket prices for the Super Bowl remain sky-high, with resale values fluctuating daily. Fans looking to attend in person are facing steep prices, with some tickets costing thousands of dollars. As demand continues to surge, it becomes even more critical for buyers to be cautious and follow the Attorney General’s guidelines to avoid scams.
