Young Lawyers’ Section Council gathered in Kansas City for its winter meeting, focusing on professional growth, public service, and leadership.
YLS works to facilitate the professional growth and public service of new and recently admitted Missouri lawyers. The YLS Council is comprised of approximately 35 lawyers from districts across the state who are elected by their peers to serve two-year terms.
Twelve YLS council members spent their afternoon March 28 sorting supplies for families in need with Operation Breakthrough. Three council members recorded videos to educate the public on their rights based on content from ShowMeRights.org. That evening, the council focused on networking with dinner and mini golf.
The council conducted official business March 29 and gave updates on various projects including:
- a welcome and update on The Missouri Bar Board of Governors from 2024-2025 Missouri Bar President Shelly Dreyer;
- budget review and funding request;
- reports from various committees and liaisons.
“We had a wonderful winter YLS Council meeting here in Kansas City last weekend,” said YLS Council Chair Danielle Atchison. “As the council chair, I had the privilege of hosting our council members from all around the state here in my district. The council members are working hard to carry out our mission through committee activities on ABA matters, disaster relief, citizenship education, well-being, diversified networking and educational opportunities, social media videos and publications for the public, among other work.”
