It’s graduation week at Mizzou Law, and while we are celebrating all of our amazing graduating 3Ls, we are highlighting a few students who have lined up amazing first jobs out of law school! We meet Tom Langdon!
What will you be doing once you finish graduation and take the Bar?
After graduation and the Missouri Bar Exam, I will be clerking at the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Kansas City, Missouri. Following my clerkship, I will be moving to Washington, D.C., to practice intellectual property law at Rothwell, Figg, Ernst, and Manbeck.
How do you feel Mizzou Law has prepared you to begin your career in the legal field?
Because there were few writing opportunities when obtaining my engineering degree at the University of Missouri, I came into law school with a severe writing disadvantage. Through the Missouri Law Review and my academic advisers—Professors Erika Lietzan, Dennis Crouch, and Ryan Vacca—who assisted me in publishing my student notes, I am now confident in my writing and am ready to use it to advocate on behalf of innovators and entrepreneurs.
Can you name one or two faculty who have really made a difference in your law school experience?
Every professor at Mizzou Law I have had the opportunity to learn from has had a hand in molding my law school experience. Professors Erika Lietzan and Dennis Crouch were the most influential. Both spent several hours outside of class to provide me with writing and employment advice. I would not have the excellent post-graduate opportunities I have today without either of them.
What is the one thing you’ll miss most about Mizzou Law once you leave?
While I am certain I will receive excellent mentorship and establish a close rapport with future colleagues in the legal profession, I will miss the unique relationships with my mentors and classmates at Mizzou Law the most. In particular, I will miss the relationships I have built with Jessie O’Brien, Matthew Swords, Austin Siener, Annie Kreikemeier, Taylor Todd, and Annaleigh Hobbs while on the senior editorial board of the Missouri Law Review.
