Patient alleges St. Louis County doctor lacerated spleen during colonoscopy

Medical malpractice 09

ST. LOUIS — A Monroe County resident is suing Dr. Sanjay T. Bhat, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries and negligence.

Jo Ann Moore filed a complaint on March 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri against Bhat alleging that the licensed physician failed to provide proper and adequate care within the standards accepted in the medical industry.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 28, she underwent a colonoscopy procedure with the defendant. As a proximate result of defendant's negligence, she has suffered injuries that resulted in disability and medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Bhat responsible because the defendant allegedly carelessly lacerated and/or ruptured her spleen and failed to perform further treatment and diagnostic studies after the procedure.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in an amount of $1 million, plus costs of this suit. She is represented by Jack S. Strellis of Strellis & Field Chartered in Waterloo, Illinois.
