St. Louis consumer says Miller and Steeno, Opportunity Financial violated debt collection laws

Late 02

ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis resident is suing debt collectors, citing alleged false or false representation.

Jacquelyn Fowler filed a complaint on March 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri against Miller and Steeno P.C., Opportunity Financial LLC and Does 1-4 alleging that they violated the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act and the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 9, she received a letter from the defendants attempting to collect a debt owed to Opportunity Financial. Their conduct has caused her to suffer loss of time, attorneys’ fees paid for advice regarding this matter, anger, anxiety, fear, frustration and embarrassment. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly gave her the impression that a legal action was imminent if she did not make the payment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory, punitive and statutory damages, costs and attorneys’ fees, interest and such other or further relief as this Court deems just and proper. She is represented by Nathan D. Sturycz of Main Street Law in Edwardsville, Illinois.
