ST. LOUIS — Consumers are suing talc powder manufacturer and distributors, citing alleged manufacturing and design defect and failure to warn.

Evelyn Austin, Carol Ashworth, Tracie Austin, Vanessa Banks, Kendall Baugh, et al filed a complaint on May 15 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Johnson & Johnson Inc., Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies Inc. and Imerys Talc America, alleging that they negligently advertised and marketed talc as safe for human use.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that in 2016, as a result of using Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder and Shower to Shower, the plaintiffs developed ovarian cancer. The plaintiffs suffered severe and permanent pain, disability, economic damages and medical expenses, the complaint states.

The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to inform the consuming public of the known catastrophic health hazard associated with the use of their products.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants in excess of $25,000, plus costs of this action and such other just and appropriate relief.
