CLAYTON — A surviving spouse is suing a hospital, a nonprofit and a chaplain, citing alleged intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Deborah Williams of St. Louis County filed a complaint in the St. Louis Circuit Court against SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital, Mid-America Transplant Services and Katherine Huffman, alleging that they failed to comply with the Uniform Anatomical Gift Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that as a result of defendants' wrongful acts, the plaintiff was injured and suffered irreparable mental anguish and emotional harm after the death of her husband. The plaintiff holds SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital, Mid-America Transplant Services and Katherine Huffman responsible because the defendants allegedly removed the plaintiff's husband's body parts without her consent.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs of this suit and all further relief as the Court may deem just and appropriate. She is represented by Christopher Bent of Law Offices of Christopher Bent LLC in St. Louis.
