S-T Leather Co. claims warehouse was damaged during demolition next door

ST. LOUIS — A leather company is suing a demolition service company, citing alleged negligence while conducting a demolition that caused severe property damage.

S-T Leather Co. filed a complaint June 28 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Z&L Wrecking Co. Inc. and St. Mary's Development LLC alleging that the defendants failed to exercise ordinary care that resulted in severe damage to the plaintiff's property.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 16, 2016, defendants were issued a demolition permit to wreck a five-story brick commercial building next door to the plaintiff's warehouse. During the demolition, the plaintiff's warehouse was damaged when the building collapsed, hitting the warehouse, ultimately destroying the property and the unique leather products stored inside.

The plaintiff holds Z&L Wrecking Co. and St. Mary's Development responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to take proper precautions to prevent the five-story building from falling on the plaintiff's warehouse.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount in excess of $25,000 for punitive damages, costs expended, and for such other and further orders as the court shall deem just and proper. They are represented by Richard J. Magee of The Magee Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
