ST. LOUIS — A consumer has filed a class-action lawsuit against Welspun USA Inc. and Welspun India Ltd., textile manufacturers, citing alleged unfair and deceptive merchandising practices.

Julie George filed the complaint on July 3 in the St. Louis Circuit Court, alleging that the defendants violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has been damaged for purchasing and paying a premium price for a fake product. Instead, it allegedly was made from Indian cotton that sells at 40 to 50 percent less than Egyptian cotton.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order certifying this complaint as a class-action suit, appointing the plaintiff as class representative and her counsels as class counsels, award for compensatory damages, disgorgement of ill-gotten profits, cost and expenses and all other relief as may be just and proper. She is represented by Matthew H. Armstrong of Armstrong Law Firm LLC in St. Louis and Stuart L. Cochran and Bruce W. Steckler of Steckler Gresham Cochran PLLC in Dallas.
