ST. LOUIS — A priest is suing the owners and operators of La Oroya Complex in Peru, citing the alleged failure to warn residents living near the complex of the effects of toxic substances.
Father Chris Collins as next friend of minors R.C.S.L, and N.E.A.M. filed a complaint on July 5 in the St. Louis City Circuit Court against Doe Run Resources Corporation, D.R. Acquisition Corp., Marvin K. Kaiser, et al., alleging that the defendants failed in their duty to control and contain the metals and other toxic substances they had generated, handled, stored and disposed of at the La Oroya Complex, which reportedly created an unsafe environment.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that the minors lived in the region of La Oroya, Peru and have been exposed to and harmed by the dangerous and toxic substances released from the La Oroya Complex.
The plaintiff hold the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to warn the public of the reasonably foreseeable effects of the release of toxic metals, gases and other toxic substances into the environment and community surrounding the La Oroya Complex.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seek judgment in an amount in excess of $25,000 for punitive damages, costs and expenses, pre- and post-judgment interest and any further relief the court deems appropriate.
