Husband claims St. Louis hospital failed to properly treat wife, resulting in her death

ST. LOUIS — A husband is suing a St. Louis hospital, citing alleged failure of care caused the wrongful death of a patient.

John Gross filed a complaint in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Barnes Jewish Hospital, alleging that the defendant failed its duty to provide the proper medical care and attention to all of its patients.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 11, 2015, his wife sought treatment at the defendant's facility for severe abdominal pain. A CT scan was performed but despite the result of possible active bleeding, the scan was not followed up appropriately, which resulted in a fatal hemorrhage, the complaint states. His wife died July 28, 2015.

The plaintiff holds Barnes Jewish Hospital responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide the medical care within the reasonable standard for physicians and health care providers engaging in the same or similar medical services.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for actual and special damages, pain and suffering, damages in excess of $75,000 for costs incurred and further relief as the court deems just and proper. He is represented by Antwaun Smith of Smith Law Office LLC in St. Joseph.
