ST. LOUIS — A diabetic person is suing, in-home care provider and employer, citing alleged negligence.

Lorraine Houston of St. Louis filed a complaint Aug. 7 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Jacquelyn Echols and St. Andrew's at Home Services, doing business as St. Andrew's Senior Solutions, alleging they failed to provide a safe and appropriate temperature of water to soak the plaintiff's feet.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 18, 2016, she sustained severe third-degree burns on her feet, one of which eventually required amputation, after Echols poured boiling water on Houston's feet allegedly without checking the temperature. Houston claims has suffered physical and mental pain, has lost of income and incurred medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because Echols allegedly negligently failed to check the temperature of the boiled water to make it sure that it was safe to soak Houston's feet.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of over $25,000, cost for this action and any other relief as the court deems necessary. She is represented by Jermaine Wooten of The Legal Solutions Group in St. Louis.
