ST. LOUIS — A Jefferson County worker is suing a construction company, citing alleged disability discrimination and wrongful termination.

John D. Bruegger filed a complaint Aug. 25 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against B & P Construction Inc., alleging that the defendant violated the Missouri Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 19, 2016, he was terminated from employment after being severely injured while working for the defendant. He claims the medical treatment and benefits he sought under the Missouri Workers' Compensation Statute was a contributing factor in his sudden termination.

As a result, Bruegger claims he suffered lost wages, lost career opportunities, shame and emotional distress.

The plaintiff holds B & P Construction responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide workers' compensation benefits, used his as a reason for termination and disregarded the law and the rights of its employee.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages, together with interest, costs, attorneys' fees, and all other relief deemed just and equitable. He is represented by Ryan M. Furniss of The Furniss Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
