Woman blames St. Louis County Cab driver for Wells Avenue crash

ST. LOUIS — A driver is suing a transportation company and cab driver, citing alleged failure to keep a vehicle under control to avoid a collision.

Geneva Griffin filed a complaint Aug. 24 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against St. Louis County Cab Co. Inc. and Michael Merriwether, alleging the defendants failed their duty to exercise the highest degree of care in operating and maintaining vehicle for the safety of other motorists.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 20, 2014, she was driving west on Wells Avenue when the right side of her vehicle was struck by a taxi driven by Merriwether, who worked for St. Louis County Cab. As a result, Giffin claims she suffered physical injuries, severe discomfort and medical expenses.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because Merriwether allegedly failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to follow the rules and guidelines of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations and failed to pay proper attention.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in a sum in excess of $25,000, along with court costs incurred and other relief the court deems proper. She is represented by Brent A. Sumner and Andrew S. Martin of The Sumner Law Group LLC in Clayton.
