ST. LOUIS — Surviving heirs are suing various companies, some of which are based in Missouri, citing alleged negligence.

Sissie Redfearn, Jet Richardson and Starla Richardson, as surviving heirs of Ronald Richardson, deceased, filed a complaint Sept. 15 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against AK Steel Corp., Ameron International, Bechtel Corp. and others, alleging that they failed to exercise ordinary care and caution for the safety of others.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that beginning in 1975, Ronald Richardson was first exposed to asbestos-containing products manufactured, sold, distributed or installed by the defendants. As a result, the plaintiff claim he developed lung cancer. He died on Sept. 22, 2015. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly negligently included asbestos fibers in their products when adequate substitutes were available and failed to provide adequate warnings and instructions concerning the dangers of working with or around products containing asbestos fibers.

The plaintiffs seek damages of more than $25,000 and any further relief as the court deems just and equitable. They are represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian & Associates PC in Edwardsville, Illinois.
