Man claims city of St. Louis failed to keep sidewalk safe

ST. LOUIS — A man is suing a city, citing alleged negligence and failure to warn of dangers on a property.

Vincent Clark filed a complaint Sept. 25 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against the city of St. Louis, alleging that the defendant failed to exercise ordinary care and should have known of the dangerous condition existing in the premises.

According to the complaint, Clark alleges that on Sept. 24, 2012, he was walking on the sidewalk at 14th Street and Clark Avenue, which is maintained by the defendant, when he tripped over the corner of a wheelchair ramp with uneven alignment, causing him to fall and sustain serious injury.

As a result, Clark claims he suffered physical pain and incurred medical expenses totaling $5,097.96.

The plaintiff holds the city of St. Louis responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to exercise ordinary care to remove, barricade or warn of the dangerous condition present in the sidewalk and failed to maintain the area.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for an amount in excess of the minimum jurisdiction of $25,000, along with costs expended. He is represented by Cecil L. Skaggs of Central West End Law Office in St. Louis.
