ST. LOUIS — A minor student is suing the St. Louis Public School District and Ford Elementary School Principal Phyllis A. Ramsey-Monroe, alleging that negligence resulted in injuries she sustained in an elementary school restroom.
Aleyah Jenae Whittier, through her father, Darrell Whittier, filed a complaint on Oct. 9 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging that they failed to maintain the school premises in a reasonably safe condition for their students.
According to the complaint, the incident that prompted the lawsuit took place on Nov. 15, 2016, when the plaintiff was a student at Ford Elementary School. While attempting to act as a shield in a restroom to keep others from seeing into an open stall while her friend went to the bathroom, the stall's exposed sharp metal lacerated her right ring finger. She has suffered pain and suffering, scarring, disfigurement and incurred medical expenses.
The plaintiff holds the Special Administrative Board of the Transitional School District of the city of St. Louis and Ramsey-Monroe responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly inspect and discover the existence of a dangerous condition and failed to take sufficient measures to remedy it.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, plus costs of this action and such other relief the court deems proper. She is represented by Christopher A. Wright and Brian P. Millikan of Millikan Wright LLC in Kirkwood.
