Slip01

ST. LOUIS — A man who slipped and fell while visiting the the Municipal Court Building is suing the city for alleged negligence in keeping premises safe.

City resident Charles Reed filed a complaint on Oct. 10 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against the city of St. Louis, alleging that the defendant failed in its duty to properly maintain a site regularly used by the public.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 5, 2013, he was caused to slip and fall on snow that had accumulated on the outside steps of the Municipal Court Building.

As a result, Reed claims he suffered physical injuries and medical expenses in the amount of $18,652.28.

The plaintiff holds the city responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to adequately inspect the Municipal Court Building's stairs, failed to barricade or warn of the presence of snow on the building's stairs and failed to remedy the condition when it knew the snow presented a danger to the public.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount in excess of $25,000, together with costs and for any further relief the court deems proper. He is represented by Michael J. Sudekum of Mandel & Mandel, LLP in St. Louis.
