ST. LOUIS — A former on-board service attendant is suing a common carrier operator, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Ramona Garrett filed a complaint Oct. 17 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against National Railroad Passenger Corp. (Amtrak), alleging the company failed to comply with the provisions of the Federal Employer's Liability Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that while working for defendant between May 18, 2008, and Jan. 18, 2015, she sustained injuries while in the performance of her duties when the cars in which she was working began to shake and move excessively side to side. As a result, she claims she sustained severe injuries to her knees and back that will likely require surgery. The plaintiff holds National Railroad Passenger Corp. (Amtrak) responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected her to excessive and repetitive unsafe ergonomics and unsafe postures and failed to provide safe appliances and methods for work.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, plus costs of this action and any further relief to which she may be entitled. She is represented by D. Matthew Dreesen of Dreesen Law Firm LLC in Chesterfield.
