Tenants claim they were falsely accused, harassed by landlord

Contract 01

ST. LOUIS — Two tenants are suing their former landlord and her lawyer, citing alleged harassment and deliberate intent to cause harm.

Tonetta M. Whitfield and Takeisha R. Roberts filed a complaint on Nov. 16 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Sandra A. Watson and Carmody MacDonald, PC alleging that the defendants accused the  tenants of unlawfully living on a property and removed their rights to use the property.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Aug. 13, 2015 Watson sent notice to the tenants by certified mail that they were unlawfully living at her property even after transferring the deed to Federal National Mortgage Association. The defendants also filed suit for rent and possession against them, removed all usage on the property, and demanded rent payments due of $4,600 to allegedly harass and intimidate plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs holds Watson and MacDonald responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly investigate the ownership of the property, falsely accused the tenants of unlawfully living on the property and made accusations that the tenants had not paid due rent with no actual basis.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury, and seek judgment for actual damages in an amount that is fair and reasonable, together with punitive damages, costs, and for such other relief as the court deems just and proper. They are represented by Richard J. Keyes in St. Louis.
