ST. LOUIS — Survivors of a deadly fire in St. Louis are suing multiple entities, citing alleged negligence and wrongful death.

Dashia Martin, individually and on behalf of all beneficiaries of Dashawn Martin, a deceased minor, and others filed a complaint on Nov. 29 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against West Winds Inv. LLC, Tommie Doss, Cadet Manufacturing and others, alleging that they conspired together to avoid legal responsibility.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Oct. 26, 2016, a fire broke out at the property leased by the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs were severely injured and Dashawn Martin died from multiple burns he sustained during the fire. The plaintiffs suffered physical injuries, lost wages and benefits, property damage, and medical, funeral and burial expenses.

The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to equip the building with functioning smoke detectors, failed to prevent the fire and failed to provide adequate warnings during the fire.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek compensatory and punitive damages, costs incurred for this action, and such other general relief which the court may deem appropriate. They are represented by James G. Onder and W. Wylie Blair of OnderLaw LLC in St. Louis; Ben Wilson of Morgan & Morgan PA in Jackson, Mississippi; and R. Allen Smith Jr. of The Smith Law Firm PLLC in Ridgeland.
