Man's heir accuses manufacturers of exposing deceased to asbestos

Asbestos 13

ST. LOUIS — The stepson of a man who died from mesothelioma is suing numerous companies, citing alleged negligence and failure to warn.

Stephen F. Atchison, as personal representative of the estate of Lawrence Farrar, deceased filed a complaint on Dec. 19 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against CSR, LTD, J-M Manufacturing Company Inc. and John Crane Inc., at al., alleging that the defendants sold and distributed asbestos-containing products that were defective and unreasonably dangerous.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between 1951 and 1981 Farrar served in the U.S. Army and was employed by various companies where he was exposed to asbestos fibers emanating from certain products manufactured, sold and distributed by the defendants. On Jan. 12, 2016, he died due to mesothelioma, an asbestos-induced disease.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to provide any or adequate warnings to persons working with or around the products of the dangers of inhaling, ingesting or otherwise absorbing the asbestos fibers contained in them.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks judgment for actual, compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $25,000 plus costs of action, and any other such relief as the court deems just and equitable. He is represented by Laci M. Whitley of Flint Law Firm LLC in Edwardsville, Illinois.
